Lilo & Stitch Is Tracking Towards a MASSIVE Opening Weekend
Disney CEO Bob Iger got to take something of a victory lap as he delivered the company’s latest earnings report this morning.
While the big news coming out of the event was that a new Disney park and resort is coming to Abu Dhabi, there was plenty more for both investors and fans to be excited about.
As we previously reported, Disney Experiences delivered strong results, while the company’s streaming numbers were sparkling.

Finally, it’s time to turn our attention to the big screen.
Disney’s Theatrical Outlook
While Thunderbolts* is now in theaters, Disney has a cache of films on the horizon, including Elio, Tron: Ares, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and Zootopia 2. Looking at his company’s release schedule, Iger proudly stated that it was “as strong as any slate I’ve seen in a long time.”

The next film to hit theaters will be the highly anticipated Lilo & Stitch.
Enter ‘Lilo & Stitch’
Directed by Dean Fleischer Camp, Disney’s Lilo & Stitch stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo and Chris Sanders as the voice of Stitch. Zach Galifianakis, Sydney Agudong, Billy Magnussen, and Courtney B. Vance join them on their adventure.

Originally envisaged as a direct-to-streaming film, Lilo & Stitch now looks like a theatrical blockbuster.
As of this writing, the film is tracking towards a domestic debut between $110 million and $130 million. It should be noted, however, that Lilo & Stitch will debut over the extended Memorial Day Weekend.

Another Disney Blockbuster
With plenty of positive buzz surrounding the film and the full weight of the Disney synergy machine behind it, we could see Lilo & Stitch debut even higher. Based on how things are trending, it looks like Disney will soon have another $1 billion film on its hands.

While there is no doubt that Disney got off to a slow start at the box office this year, between the release of Thunderbolts* and the upcoming debut of Lilo & Stitch, it is clear that the studio is still the king of the box office.
