Disney’s ‘Gargoyles’ Live-Action Reboot Gets a Promising Update
If you grew up watching the Disney Afternoon, you undoubtedly remember Gargoyles. One part Shakespearian tragedy and one part 90s New York action series, Gargoyles raised the bar for Disney storytelling and gave Disney an answer to shows like X–Men and Batman: The Animated Series.
For someone who was the perfect age when Gargoyles came out, the show holds a special place in my heart. That is why I was so excited when reports came out in 2023 that Disney was developing a live-action reboot of the series.
With James Wan producing and Gary Dauberman acting as showrunner, it looked like fans would soon reunite with Goliath, Hudson, Brooklynn, and the rest of the Manhattan clan.

Unfortunately, since the Gargoyles reboot was announced, updates on the project have been few and far between.
Thankfully, it appears that the project is still a-go!
The Latest on ‘Gargoyles’
In a recent interview with ComicBook, showrunner Gary Dauberman revealed that his Gargoyles reboot was still in production.

“[The team] is talking to some great people. We are still keeping that darkness to it. I’m excited to see the animated [series] come to life,” he said.
When pressed for specifics, Dauberman remained mum.

“I think Disney would kill me. I am such a fan of the show and there is so much good in it,” he teased.
The Show Will Still Be Live-Action
While fans will obviously be excited to hear that more Gargoyles is on the way, many have held out hope that the animated series could be continued in some fashion. Considering Disney’s recent success with X-Men ’97, a new season of Gargoyles seems like a slam dunk.

According to Dauberman, however, his team is focused on live action.
“I feel like we have the animated series already. The cartoon is so good,” he explained. “It’s so good. That’s what we fell in love with. I think it lends itself to a really cool live-action version.”

At this time, there is no word on when Gargoyles could hit Disney+. For now, at least, we can take solace in the fact that show is still in active production.
