Disney and Fortnite Announce Numerous ‘Star Wars’ Experiences

When Bob Iger announced that Disney had purchased a $1.5 billion stake in Epic Games last year, the company was making a statement.

Looking at the entertainment sphere, it was clear that gaming was one of the final frontiers that Disney had not conquered. With their partnership with Epic, everything changed.

“This represents probably our biggest foray into the game space ever, which I think is not only timely, but an important step when you look at the demographic trends and look at where Gen Alpha and Gen Z and even Millennials are spending their time in media,” Iger said.

Disney Has Become a Major Presence in Fortnite

While Disney has yet to unveil its new “gaming universe” that will exist alongside Fortnite, the integration of the Disney brand into the immensely popular video game has already borne fruit.

Over the last several months, we have seen ESPN Football Island debut, multiple Marvel characters join the game, and even a portion of D23: The Ultimate Fan Event streamed within Fortnite.

Now, Epic and Disney are embarking on their most expansive collaboration yet with the launch of the Star Wars-themed Battle Royale Season in Fortnite.

Fortnite: GALACTIC BATTLE

Originally announced at Star Wars Celebration. Fortnite: GALACTIC BATTLE will begin May 2 and introduce new Star Wars content into the game. In addition to the arrival of Darth Jar Jar, Emperor Palpatine, and TIE Fighters, May 2 will also bring a Star Wars Watch Party island.

There, beginning at 10 AM ET on May 2, players will have the opportunity to watch the first two episodes of Star Wars: Underworld and fight off waves of Stormtroopers.

MyDisney and Epic Games Accounts Can Now Be Linked

As part of the further integration of Fortnite and Disney, players can link their Epic Games and MyDisney accounts starting today. Eligible players who do so will unlock a First Order Stormtrooper Outfit!
