Disney World Is Changing Its Moderate Resort Room Categories in 2026

If you frequently stay at Walt Disney World’s resorts, you know how important the location of your room can be.

Whether you want to be lodged next to a resort pool, lobby, or transportation stop, the location of your room can make or break your Disney vacation.

As someone who grew up staying at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, my goal at check-in was always to get a room as close to Old Port Royale as possible.

With this in mind, beginning next year, Disney is making changes to its Moderate Resort room categories.

Moderate Resort Rooms Are Currently Offered By View, Location, or Type.

Previously, guests staying at a Disney Moderate Resort had the opportunity to book rooms based on their view. While this was a nice option for aesthetic reasons, the location of your room and its proximity to the resort’s amenities often remained unclear.

Now, Disney is changing things up.

Moderate Resort Rooms Will Be Offered by Location

Beginning next year, Disney Moderate Resort rooms will be divided into three categories: Standard, Preferred, and king bed rooms.

For those who don’t know, the Moderate Resorts are Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, and the two Port Orleans Resorts.

By eliminating the view-specific room options, Disney will give guests more clarity about where their room will be located. Guests willing to pay more to be closer to the hotel’s amenities will now be able to do so.

This will streamline the process and make the check-in process more efficient and simplified!

There Are Exceptions

It should be noted that guests staying at resorts with unique categories will still be able to select those rooms. For example, the Little Mermaid rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach and the Royal Guest Rooms at Port Orleans—Riverside will still be options when booking!

As more and more guests use the online check-in process and head straight to their rooms, Disney World is doing everything possible to make the process as easy as possible.
