Let’s Discuss the Basics of the Disney Dining Plan
Currently, Walt Disney World is offering multiple packages that include the Disney Dining Plan free of charge.
One of the constants of Disney vacations is that free dining remains as popular today as when it was first introduced.

Disney Dining Plans
So, you’re probably why everyone loves it so much, although the word “free” provides a strong hint.
Let’s discuss the basics of the Disney Dining Plan and why you want it.
What Is the Disney Dining Plan
I don’t claim to be a healthy living expert or anything, but I’m pretty sure you should eat every day of your life.
In fact, a quick search suggests that you should eat multiple times a day.
I’ll level with you that I don’t always do that. Presumably, you’re a lot smarter than me, though.
You also know that you’ll burn plenty of calories when you visit Disney theme parks.

These are large spaces, and you’ll expend lots of energy moving from place to place, trying everything as Shakira suggests.
So, you should eat a lot during a Disney vacation, usually even more than you would at home.
The problem with this need is that you’ll face theme park pricing, an issue that isn’t exclusive to Disney.
Most so-called tourist traps offer gouge pricing for meals.

It’s been a thing so long that I remember Garfield jokes about it 30+ years ago. And that’s not exactly cutting-edge humor.
In a perfect world, you’d save money on your vacation by spending less on your meals.
Disney knows this and has invented a way to help you save on your vacation budget. It’s the Disney Dining Plan (DDP).
When you use the dining plan, you can eat two meals a day for free as part of your package.

Technically, you can purchase this dining plan whenever you want, but everything is better when it’s free.
Currently, Disney offers free dining plan packages for Walt Disney World trips from June 29 through December 22, 2025.

Similarly, guests traveling to the United States from England gain a free dining plan for 2026 trips as well.
Disney is encouraging tourists to eat for free as long as they visit the parks soon.
How Does the Disney Dining Plan Work?

The Disney Dining Plan comes in two forms, one of which is better than the other.
The Quick-Service Dining Plan (QSDP) entitles guests to the following:
- 2 Quick-Service meals per person per night
- 1 Snack per person per night
- 1 Resort Refillable Mug per person per stay

Don’t sleep on the value of that mug. Whenever you’re at your hotel, you get free refills because of it.
Since most Disney drinks cost at least $4 now, your savings add up quickly.
As for the Quick-Service meals, you’ll receive entitlements for popular counter service restaurants.
Disney lists more than 100 participating eateries, including popular choices like Satu’li Canteen, Woody’s Lunch Box, and Columbia Harbor House.
Better yet, you can use the My Disney Experience app to place your order.
With Mobile Ordering, you can order precisely the meal you like and customize it to your satisfaction.
Once you’re ready, you’ll signal the restaurant when you want them to prepare your food.
The process is efficient and time-saving, as you can stand in line at an attraction and prep your meal order.

The days of waiting to order at a restaurant have long since passed at Disney, while the food remains exceptional.
The Better Version of the Disney Dining Plan
Believe it or not, there’s an even better version of the dining plan, one simply called the Disney Dining Plan.
This version provides you with the following entitlements:
- 1 Quick-Service meal per person per night
- 1 Table Service meal per person per night
- 1 Snack per person per night
- 1 Resort Refillable Mug per person per stay

So, the big advantage of this dining plan is the daily Table Service meal.
You may not realize this fact, but many of the most popular Disney restaurants can cost $60 or more per person.

That’s especially true about character meals, arguably the most popular of all Disney dining experiences.
Management knows that every table will book for these meals. So, Disney prices the restaurants accordingly.

This is a basic economic law of supply and demand. With the DDP, you can beat the system, though.
Your entitlement doesn’t come with a price tag. There’s no stipulation about the cost of the meal.

You simply book your table and then use your entitlement once the meal ends.
So, that $60 character meal for someone else is just a DDP entitlement for you.

For this reason, trying to maximize the value of the dining plan is a thing.
Still, no matter how you approach your entitlements, you’ll eat extraordinarily well.

Disney’s Table Service restaurants are universally great. Even better, when you use your dining plan, they’re free!
What Do You Get with the Meals?
Finally, let’s discuss what’s included with your dining plan entitlements.
When you use a Quick-Service entitlement, whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you receive the following:
- 1 Entrée
- 1 Nonalcoholic Beverage (or Alcoholic Beverage, for Guests 21 and older)
With a Table Service entitlement, your lunch or dinner order will include:
- 1 Entrée
- 1 Dessert
- 1 Nonalcoholic Beverage (or Alcoholic Beverage, for Guests 21 and older)
Note that when you use a Table Service credit at lunch, you don’t receive dessert, though.
Obviously, you’re free to order one, but you’ll pay out of pocket in that scenario.

The other thing you should know about Table Service entitlements is that they don’t include tipping.
Please plan to pay at least the expected minimum of 18 percent to acknowledge your high-quality Disney server.

Overall, the Disney Dining Plan is amazing, and I say that as someone who just used it in November.
We dined like royalty and felt like we got tremendous value even though we paid for our dining plan.
