Emilo Estevez Says He Wrote a “Mighty Ducks 4′ — But Disney Wasn’t Interested
Twenty-seven years after the world was first introduced to Gordon Bombay and the Mighty Ducks, Disney revived the iconic hockey franchise for 2021’s The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.
The streaming series saw Emilio Estevez reprise his role as an older and more cynical coach Bombay. Now the owner of the Ice Palace, Bombay has his love for hockey reignited when a new underdog team begins practicing at his rink.

In addition to Estevez, the series starred Lauren Graham and Brady Noon. Original Mighty Ducks stars Matt Doherty, Elden Henson, Garette Henson, Vincent A. LaRusso, Marguerite Moreau, and Justin Wong also reprised their roles.
Estevez Left the Series After One Season
While the first season of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers was well received by critics and fans alike, Estevez left the show after a dispute with Disney over their COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
Gordon Bombay was subsequently written out of the second and final season of the series. Subsequently, Disney completely removed Game Changers from its streaming series.

Since the end of Game Changers, no new Mighty Ducks content has entered development. If Estevez got his way, however, a Mighty Ducks 4 would be in production.
‘Mighty Ducks 4’?
During a recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Estevez revealed that he wrote a spec script for Mighty Ducks 4.
“I also wrote ‘Mighty Ducks 4,’” Estevez said. “I wanted to make up for all of the disasters that happened on the ‘Game Changers’ series.”

According to the director, the film would have seen Gordon Bombay pulled back into coaching by Charlie Conway (Joshua Jackson) and Russ Tyler (Keenan Thompson), who did not appear in Game Changers.
“[It’s] a feature script that had coach Bombay coming back, being pulled back in by Joshua Jackson’s character and Kenan Thompson’s character and to coach a new team, an expansion team, for the professional women’s hockey league,” Estevez explained.

“So, it would be an all-girl team. Now, when we discover Bombay, he’s coaching roller derby and so he says, ‘My girls are going with me. They have to have a shot.’ It was charming and contemporary and cool and organically of the moment. It’s where we’re at.”
Disney Did Not Bite
Unfortunately for fans, Disney was not interested in the project.
“Disney was like, ‘We don’t want to pursue that,'” Estevez revealed.

For now, it doesn’t sound like we are going to get more Mighty Ducks anytime soon.
