Darth Maul Will Return Next Year For a New ‘Star Wars’ Animated Series
Ever since the conclusion of The Bad Batch last year, the future of the Star Wars animated universe has been unclear.
Beginning with the introduction of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in 2008, many of the franchise’s best stories have been told through animation. Between The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, and The Bad Batch, the Star Wars story has been fleshed out and expanded upon in fresh and exciting ways.
If you wanted to see the greatest adventures that a galaxy far, far away has to offer, you needed to be watching the animated series.

Now, we know where the next chapter in that story will take us.
‘Maul — Shadow Lord’
At Star Wars Celebration Japan yesterday, Lucasfilm announced that a new series, Maul — Shadow Lord, will debut on Disney+ in 2026.
Picking up Darth Maul’s story a year after The Clone Wars, the series will seemingly focus on the period between the fall of the Republic and the events of Star Wars: Rebels.

Sam Witwer will once again return to voice the iconic villain, reprising his role from The Clone Wars, Rebels, and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
“We learn some different things about this character,” Witwer teased. “He’s got some different traits that you wouldn’t necessarily think he has that make perfect sense from what he’s been through.”
What We Know About the Series
While the exact plot of Maul — Shadow Lord is being kept under wraps, Lucasfilm VP of animation Athena Portillo noted that the series was an “important” one.

“Unfortunately I can’t tell you too much. But what I can say is Sam Witwer’s involvement in the show has been pristine,” she said. “I’m very excited about him being able to review the scripts and provide input in all of that as well. Dave Filoni and Sam created the character for animation, and so it’s very important to hear his thoughts as well for the character’s depth.”
Maul — Shadow Lord will debut on Disney+ next year.
