Sean Levy’s ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ Is Coming to Theaters in 2027
Star Wars Celebration is officially underway in Japan today, and we have our first big announcement.
Sean Levy’s long-gestating Star Wars film has finally been officially announced by Lucasfilm!
Titled Star Wars: Starfighter, the film will be set six years after The Rise of Skywalker and will see Ryan Gosling join the galaxy far, far away.

“The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,” Gosling explained tonight. “It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”
‘Starfighter’ Will Be a Standalone Film
While the film will be set after the Star Wars sequel trilogy, it will not continue the Skywalker Saga. Instead, Levy’s story will be a standalone film in a new era of galactic history.

“This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not sequel. It’s a new adventure. And it’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet,” the director explained.
Levy has been attached to a Star Wars project since 2022. The prevailing notion, however, was that the filmmaker needed to get through the final season of Stranger Things and the release of Deadpool & Wolverine before he could work on the project in earnest.

When news broke that Gosling was joining the film, it became evident that Levy’s project, unlike many other Star Wars films, would see the light of day.
The Film Will Hit Theaters in 2027
At this time, there is no word on Starfighter’s plot. Hopefully, however, we learn more soon.
