Bananas are an excellent form of enrichment for great blue turacos, so the nutrition experts at the park’s Animal Nutrition Center make sure to incorporate them into the daily diets of these beautiful, sun-loving birds.
Native to the forests of central and western Africa, great blue turacos are recognizable by their blue-gray feathers, blue-black crests, and yellow bellies.

These birds generally grow up to 28″-30″ in length, with females typically being larger than males.
Great blue turacos primarily eat fruit (like bananas!), but they also feed on leaves, flowers, buds, shoots, and insects. Thanks to their healthy diets, these birds can live up to 30 years in human care.
