Six New Permits Have Been Filed For Magic Kingdom’s Upcoming ‘Cars’ Land
At last year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro revealed that a new Cars-themed area would be coming to Magic Kingdom.
As part of a project that will radically change the basic makeup of Walt Disney World’s flagship park, both Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America will be demolished to facilitate the creation of the new Pixar-themed land.
“The American West has always been about keeping your eyes on the horizon…believing in yourself, carving your own path, and striving toward success. That goes for miners in the mountains, bears from the country, a princess from the bayou … or a racecar from the big city,” Josh D’Amaro told the audience at D23.

While Disney has yet to announce when construction on the new Cars area will begin, it looks like preparations are getting underway.
A New Permit Has Been Filed
Today, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a new permit that calls for the installation of trailers at Magic Kingdom.
While the paperwork does not specifically mention the demolition of the Rivers of America or the new Cars land, the permit does call for the trailers to be installed behind Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland.

That location would seemingly indicate the trailers will be used as a base for the upcoming Frontierland overhaul.
Five Other Permits Have Been Filed
In addition to the new trailer compound, Imagineering has filed a series of permits related to infrastructure in Frontierland.
The first permit calls for the installation of an FA system. Siemens Industry, Inc. has been assigned that task.
Additionally, Disney has filed new paperwork tasking Specialty Plumbing LLC with installing infrastructure, Bumgarner Electric with electrical work, and International Fire Protection, Inc. with installing new FS systems.
Finally, Awesome Aire Solutions has been assigned the job of installing HVAC units.
While the Cars project is not specifically named in the documentation, Frontierland is assigned as the location in all six new permits.
Check Back Soon
Construction on the Cars area is set to begin later this year. So, we should continue to get more updates on the project. Hopefully, we will learn more soon!
