‘Not Just a Goof’ Is Now Streaming on Disney+
While films like The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast would launch Walt Disney Animation to unparalleled heights in the 1990s, for those who grew up in the decade, A Goofy Movie will always be the quintessential 90s film.
As we have seen in recent weeks, nostalgia for Disney’s 1995 animated classic is at an all-time high. In recent weeks, a new Powerline Max popcorn bucket debuted, and a flood of new Goofy Movie merchandise hit shelves.

Through new interviews and archival footage, Not Just a Goof gives fans an unprecedented look into the development of A Goofy Movie.

Directed by Eric Kimelton and Christopher Ninnes, the documentary reveals the untold story behind the cult-classic film, from its origins through its disappointing box office release and eventual resurrection as a beloved cult-classic Disney film.
“I was a first-time director. I had a first-time head of story. And I had a first-time lead editor. I thought we had the opportunity to make a John Hughes movie in animation,” Lima says.

Interestingly, the genesis of A Goofy Movie came when Jeffrey Katzenberg told Lima he was taking an upcoming trip with his daughter.

“He thought that might be an interesting subject matter for this story of Goofy and Max,” Lima recalled.
