Disney Previews ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ at CinemaCon
Walt Disney Studios took center stage at CinemaCon this afternoon to preview their upcoming slate of films.
With highly anticipated features such as Freakier Friday, Zootopia 2, Elio, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps on the horizon, it was an exciting night for fans and theater owners alike.
Amid the dazzling display of movie-making power, however, one film shown brighter than the rest.
‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’
At the conclusion of Disney’s showcase this afternoon, Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman returned to the stage to discuss one final film.
Zoe Saldana joined him and introduced footage from Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Set to hit theaters on December 19, Avatar: Fire and Ash is the highly-anticipated third installment in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise.
In the film, audiences will be reunited with Jake Sully, Neytiri, and Kiki. They will also meet a new tribe of Na’vi called the Ash Clan. Unlike the largely friendly Na’vi that audiences have met in the past, the Ash Clan has a dark side.

“You’ll see a lot more Pandora that you never saw before,” Cameron said at last year’s D23: The Ultimate Fan Event. “It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before. We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.”
The First Trailer Was Unveiled at CinemaCon
Audiences at CinemaCon were treated to the first trailer for Fire and Ash and were reportedly wowed by what they saw.
According to those in attendance, the trailer began with sweeping footage of Pandora before introducing the Wind Traders and the Fire People, two new Na’vi clans.

“The Wind Traders are a peaceful, nomadic air-traveling clan, and the Ash People are former Na’vi who have forsaken Eywa,” Saldana explained when introducing the clip.
While Cameron was not in attendance, he did appear via video message. Addressing theater owners, the director shared his hope for Fire and Ash.

“So sorry I can’t be there, but I’m in New Zealand, finishing up ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash,’ which I think we can all agree is a good use of my time, considering this sucker is coming at us like a freight train on Dec. 19,” Cameron began. “I hope this film can provide a shot in the arm for theater owners. We’re still struggling after the one-two punch of the pandemic and streaming.”
The Sully Family Will Be “Put Through the Wringer”
As for the film itself, Cameron teased that audiences were in for an adventure.
“The Sully family are really put through the wringer on this one as they face not only the human invaders,” he continued, “but new adversaries, the Ash People.”
