Disney Hits Pause on Their ‘Tangled’ Live-Action Remake
As Snow White implodes like the Hindenburg at the box office, Disney is pausing development on its remake of Tangled.
Originally announced last December, Disney’s live-action Tangled was set to be helmed by The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey. While no cast was announced, Jennifer Katin Robinson, who wrote Thor: Love and Thunder, was reportedly working on the script.
Almost as soon as Tangled was announced, fans began speculating who would be cast in the film. Among the names bandied about were Sabrina Carpenter or Meg Donnelly as Rapunzel and Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is currently unclear if Disney is simply pausing production on Tangled or if the film will undergo a creative overhaul.
The State of Disney’s Live-Action Remakes
While the box office results of Snow White are an outlier in many ways, the days of Disney live-action remakes coasting to $1 billion are clearly over. The last three remakes to hit theaters, Mulan, The Little Mermaid, and Snow White, have all disappointed for one reason or another.

Despite these setbacks, there is clearly a market for live-action remakes, and it would be an overreaction for Disney to completely shut down their production. While Snow White has tinted the studio’s current outlook, Lilo & Stitch will hit theaters on May 23.
So far, the buzz surrounding the remake has been almost universally positive. It looks very likely that the studio will soon have another blockbuster on its hands.
Following Lilo & Stitch, another film with strong box office prospects, Moana, is on the way.

Perhaps after the stench of Snow White has cleared, Disney will reexamine its Tangled plans, and we will finally see the film come to fruition.
