‘Snow White’ Collapses at the Box Office
While it has been hard to describe the release of Disney’s live-action Snow White as anything other than a disaster, heading into this weekend, the film still had a glimmer of hope.
Despite its sleepy opening weekend, some believed that Snow White would still attract families to theaters and perhaps have an extended box office run.

Earlier this week, we reported that the Rachel Zegler vehicle was tracking toward a $20 million second weekend in theaters. While that number was obviously not ideal for a film with a $270 million budget, it would have represented a respectable 53% drop and allowed Snow White to reign supreme at the box office once again.
A Disastrous Second Weekend
Unfortunately for Disney, Snow White completely collapsed in its second weekend in theaters and did not reach even those muted expectations.
Now that the dust has settled, we can report that Snow White earned a paltry $14.2 million at the domestic box office this weekend, a 66% decrease from its opening debut.

Shockingly, Snow White’s performance was so bad that it allowed Jason Statham’s A Working Man to rule the box office this weekend with a $15.2 million debut.
A Catastrophic Release For Disney
It is difficult to contextualize how big of a disaster Snow White has been for Disney.
Unlike other recent bombs, including Strange World, The Marvels, or Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Snow White will not only cost the studio millions of dollars but also continually drag the Disney brand into the political crosshairs.
If you add in the fact that Disney has now squandered its opportunity to remake one of its most beloved films, Snow White has been a calamity.

At this point, it seems like the studio would like to move past its $270 million mistake as quickly as possible — and it’s good news for Disney that Lilo & Stitch is just around the corner. With the film looking like another live-action blockbuster, Disney has the opportunity to quickly turn the page on one of its most disappointing releases ever.
