Disney Hires Former McDonald’s Executive Tamotsu Hiiro to Head Its Japan Business
The Walt Disney Company has tapped Tamotsu Hiiro as its new managing director for Japan.
In his new position, Hiiro will report directly to Luke Kang, president of Disney Asia Pacific. He will replace Carol Choi, who recently stepped down after five years as head of Disney’s Japanese business.

“We are thrilled to have such an accomplished leader like Hiiro-san take the helm of our Japan business, as we continue to deepen our consumer connections in this incredibly important market,” said Kang in a statement. “I believe his deep market insight, strategic business acumen and extensive local network will bring our Disney Entertainment business to new heights in Japan.”
Choi Will Remain With Disney
Choi will continue to serve as the region’s executive VP for APAC studios, original content strategy, networks, and integrated marketing. During her stint in Japan’s top spot, she oversaw the rise of Disney+ and created Disney’s Japanese original content strategy team. She also guided the Japanese releases of last year’s hits Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Moana 2.

“Hiiro-san will build on the solid foundation of growth spearheaded by Carol Choi, who has made an indelible impact on our Japan business and will continue to partner with me on many strategic, key pillars of our APAC business,” Kang continued.
Hiiro’s Accomplished Career
Prior to joining Disney, Tamotsu Hiiro served as president and CEO of McDonald’s Japan. He also spent three decades at Johnson & Johnson, where he eventually rose to president of the company’s Japan operation.
