Disney is thinking about Tomorrow at Tomorrowland. I’ll explain in MickeyBlog News.
Buzz’s Future Light Years
Lately, Disney has been thinking about the future, which we know from watching the re-theming of the former Future World.
For many years, the primary criticism of Disney theme parks was that some of its themed lands had grown outdated.
The worst part was that the principal examples of this argument were places known as Future World and Tomorrowland.
So, Disney spent several years reinventing Future World as three different themed lands.

As for Tomorrowland, Disney introduced Tron Lightcycle / Run as the new landmark.
Notably, park officials didn’t stop there, either. As we speak, an iconic Tomorrowland visual is missing.

Astro Orbiter
Disney has brought out the big cranes to remove elements of Astro Orbiter.
Every 12 years, Imagineers refurbish the planetary orbs to keep them shiny and fresh.

They clearly lost their luster during the pandemic, and Disney is fixing that now.
Even after Tron’s debut, fans complained that Tomorrowland remained a bit outdated, pointing to two attractions.
One is Space Mountain, which Disney may never touch due to its storied history as the most iconic roller coaster in the world.
But the other is Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. Disney CAN do something about that one…and it will!

Yes, Disney just announced that Space Ranger Spin will close in its current form in August. Don’t worry, though! It’s good news.
A Better Tomorrow

Once Space Ranger Spin undergoes its transformation, it will remain offline until 2026.
So, that’s two major Magic Kingdom attractions we won’t have for a significant part of 2025. Disney knows what it’s doing, though.
As with Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the change signals forward progress at the park.
Specifically, Disney will modernize the charming but outdated Buzz Lightyear game.

In the process, Imagineers will fix all the current frustrations with playing the game.
You should think of the whole thing as one giant quality-of-life update to improve the user experience.

Disney will swap out the current game controllers, the ones stubbornly attached to the ride cart.
Now, you can hold them in your hand, which will be a godsend for children in particular.

Parents know the deal about how awkward this ride can be when trying to play with Junior.
Speaking of the ride carts, Disney will replace the current ones with very impressively updated vehicles.

The stylish new fleet definitely passes the eye test and sounds like it’ll ride better, too.
Other changes include targets that will clearly identify when you’ve hit them and different colored light beams.
From now on, you’ll be able to tell which flickering light is yours versus someone else’s! Won’t that be nice?
Similarly, the new light guns will recharge immediately rather than having that awkward pause with the current version.
Alicia Stella at Theme Park Stop got to test the new equipment, and it looks dramatically better. Here’s the clip:
I have nothing but good things to say about these prospective changes, which will occur in 2026.
Disney has already filed the paperwork, and I won’t be surprised if more Tomorrowland changes are coming.
Park officials sound thrilled with Country Bear Jamboree.
Disney Miscellany

I’ve got more than a dozen stories yet to share. So, let’s go fast!
The biggest news is the opening of two new shows at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Photo: Disney
Disney just revealed the date of each show’s debut, and…it’s the same date.
On May 27th, 2025, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure will officially replace the previous Little Mermaid show here.

On that day, you can exit this show and head straight to Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.
Disney even revealed the new stage for the upcoming Villains show, which should prove wildly popular when it opens.
At EPCOT, our reporters noticed an unexpected oddity. Disney opened a pop-up bar at the World Showcase!
Elsewhere in Disney’s united nations, the Canada pavilion will introduce a permanent DVC presence soon.

Manatees at EPCOT
Toward the front of the park, Disney introduced tourists to our new bestie, Mermaid.
To a larger point, the tech team updated My Disney Experience to include Single Rider info.
Disney appears to be making a push here by highlighting Single Rider more and almost testing it at some attractions.
At Disneyland Resort, management will close a couple of shows soon.

Avengers Assemble ends on April 5th, which is this Saturday. I’d expected this one due to the impending Avengers Campus moves.
The surprise is the shutdown of Disney Junior Dance Party!, which has already vanished from the official website.
Disney presumably needs the space for something Disneyland 70-related.
Speaking of which, there’s also a Paint the Night dining package now available.

You can also finally book Donald’s Tales of Adventure reservations. Oh, and the Eggstravaganza has started!

We’ve got plenty happening at the resorts right now. For example, the crown jewel will soon undergo refurbishment.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will undergo changes from April through November.
At Disney’s Old Key West Resort, the new boat dock is taking shape.
Meanwhile, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort has temporarily closed the popular restaurant, Sebastian’s Bistro.
This one’s getting another refurbishment, which seems to happen here more often than most Disney dining options.
At the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin, management is trying to lure me by promising a stylish new arcade.
This place seems specifically designed for me and Plush Time Wins.
Still, I consider Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort the big winner this week. You can buy Dole Whips here now!

Now that you probably want to visit the hotel, I should tell you that Disney just revealed some excellent vacation packages.
There are four of them, including a rare ticket discount from May 27th through September 20th.
Families should know that Walt Disney World will host limited-time experiences like kid zones this summer.
