‘The Lion King’ Honors the Sudden Passing of Marquis Floyd
Sad news for theater fans today. The Broadway community is mourning the loss of actor Marquis Floyd, whose untimely passing was confirmed by The Lion King.
Floyd was a dedicated performer and talented choreographer whose contributions to the beloved musical left a lasting impact on his fellow performers and audiences.

Floyd joined The Lion King as part of the ensemble and was a choreographer. He graduated from the Boston Conservatory and was a Gene Kelly Artist Award winner.
Dance credits included work with the Dance Theater of Harlem and the Bad Boys of Ballet. He also performed in the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show, the 2021 VMA Awards, the Apple+ series Dickinson, and Fire Shut Up in My Bones at the Metropolitan Opera House.
While details surrounding his sudden death have not been publicly disclosed, tributes from friends, castmates, and fans have poured in, honoring his legacy, talent, and the joy he brought to the stage.
Performances of The Lion King were canceled for March 23rd, and tonight’s performance is dedicated in his honor.
