Metallic Starlings Celebrate Spring at Disney’s Animal Kingdom
With spring break crowds descending on Walt Disney World and EPCOT’s Flower & Garden Festival underway, a new season is blooming in The Most Magical Place on Earth.
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the changing of the seasons is especially notable for the park’s wildlife.

While Bakso continues to be the biggest star of the Maharajah Jungle Trek, something magical is happening in the attraction’s aviary, where the metallic starlings are hard at work building their hanging nests!
What Are Metallic Starlings?
Luckily, Dr. Mark Penning, Vice President of Animals, Science, and Environment, took to Instagram today to highlight the birds and share more information about the fascinating species.

“As spring settles in, nesting season is flourishing across our aviaries at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. 🐦⬛ On Maharajah Jungle Trek, the metallic starlings are hard at work, crafting their remarkable hanging nests high in the treetops,” Dr. Penning wrote.
“In the wild, these striking birds with their vivid red eyes can create groups of up to 400 nests. Be sure to keep an eye out for these fascinating birds during your next visit!”
