PHOTOS: Mermaid Arrives at The Seas With Nemo and Friends
There have been plenty of changes happening around Walt Disney World lately, and there is a lot of expansion to look forward to.
Earlier this year, fans were concerned that these changes would impact The Seas With Nemo & Friends pavilion in EPCOT. There was speculation that the pavilion was closing when the popular manatees were relocated.

The good news? The Seas is still open, and though its role has changed, a new manatee can now call this iconic location “home.” Meet Mermaid, the latest manatee to arrive at EPCOT.

The Seas is partnering with the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services to become a short-term critical care facility.

A few days ago, Dr. Mark Penning, Vice President of Animals, Science, and Environment, introduced Disney fans to Mermaid, the newest manatee arriving at The Seas and taking part in its short-term care program.

Mermaid is currently being rehabilitated and is the third manatee to join the location, along with Mino and Cider.

Here is a great look at Mermaid! You can tell her apart from the others because she has a little bit of white on her tail.

The sweet manatee weighs approximately 525 pounds and was rescued north of Tampa from the Homosassa River in February. Dr. Penning previously shared on his Instagram that “the skilled animal care team is working to help her regain strength and weight.”

The Seas is helping Mermaid and other manatees temporarily and will release them back into the wild. Not only will these animals get the care they need, but Disney fans will see new manatees more often.
