Snow White Opens to a Sleepy $45 Million Debut
After numerous controversies, a year-long delay, and plenty of headlines, Disney’s live-action Snow White has finally hit theaters.
The film, starring Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, and Andrew Burnap, is a modern retelling of Disney’s beloved animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

“In the heart of a dark forest, the lovely young princess Snow White seeks sanctuary in a quaint cottage belonging to seven dwarfs, escaping the wrath of her envious stepmother, the wicked Queen,” the film’s synopsis reads.
‘Snow White’s’ Disappointing Debut
Heading into the weekend, it was clear that Snow White would have a tough time at the box office. Initially, the film was projected for a domestic opening between $45 million and $55 million.

Unfortunately for Disney, it looks like the film will come in on the low end of that spectrum. According to the latest report from Deadline, the Snow White is heading towards a $45 million debut.

For context, that number now puts Snow White on par with Disney’s disappointing Dumbo remake ($46 million) and well behind 2023’s The Little Mermaid ($95.5 million), which failed to turn a profit.
A Ray of Hope?
Based on the buzz surrounding the movie and the early results, Snow White looks suspiciously like a box office bomb. Still, there is perhaps a path forward.

As we saw with Mufasa: The Lion King, family films can overcome slow starts to have extended, successful box office runs. The hope for Snow White, then, would be that families (many of whom have children on spring break) will slowly but surely head to theaters to see the latest Disney princess movie.

It may be a long shot, but Disney still has reason to hope.
