My 13 Favorite Comfort Movies on Disney+
Sometimes, you just need a good comfort movie, you know? For those days that aren’t going your way, when you’re feeling homesick, or if you just want something to watch while you eat your favorite meal, there are some films that you will always turn to.

We all have them, including me! And luckily, a lot of my favorite comfort movies are available on Disney+. So, let’s break down my top 13 that you can stream right now!
My Favorite Comfort Movies on Disney+
Father of the Bride
Father of the Bride is just like a warm hug, and I’ll never get tired of it. The house alone is an absolute dream and a reason to watch! This is literally what I think of when I think of my dream home.
Besides the perfect setting, we also have to talk about one of the best acting achievements of all time — Martin Short as Franck, the wedding planner. Is it offensive by 2025 standards? Maybe. But who exactly is he offending, considering NO ONE knows where that accent came from?! It’s incredible. A comedic genius.

Photo: IMDb
I also would just like to say that it is completely understandable for Mr. Banks to freak out over the cost of this wedding, and everyone acting like he’s being unreasonable needs to reevaluate. It’s mentioned that the wedding is $250 a head, and there are 572 guests — so $143,000 (keep in mind, this was in 1991 dollars!).

Photo: IMDb
Obviously, they are pretty well-off considering their gorgeous house in Southern California and the fact that George Banks owns a successful sneaker company, but STILL. That’s a lot of money for a wedding you’re having AT YOUR OWN HOUSE! They’re not even paying for a venue, and it’s that much?! Yeeesh.
Anyway, this movie will never get old and the family dynamic is so inspiring.
Father of the Bride 2
I actually cannot choose whether the first or second Father of the Bride movie is my favorite, so they’re both on this list, of course! The second is just as wonderful with hilarious moments and that same stunning house.
We get to see more of the lovable Banks family and some familiar shenanigans ensue, like George accidentally being knocked out by sleeping pills when his daughter goes into labor!

I love the subtle progressiveness of this movie for the early 90s. Annie and Bryan debating on the last name of their baby, the young female girl boss doctor stepping up at the end of the movie, and Annie getting to follow her dreams as a working mother.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the super young Kieran Culkin in these movies — he’s so adorable!

Also, have you ever seen anything as perfect as the baby’s room Franck designs? It brings me to tears every time.
The Incredibles
Listen, I love Pixar movies, but I can’t always put up with the emotional turmoil they cause when I watch them. That’s why The Incredibles is the perfect comfort movie — because it doesn’t make me cry!
It’s also just such a gorgeous film stylistically. It has the best mid-century modern vibes and the score is, dare I say, incredible.

Photo: Disney
Another thing I really appreciate about The Incredibles is that it doesn’t shy away from more mature themes. It’s a superhero movie, so there’s going to be some talk of death and violence, and they handle it very well.
Syndrome is such a great villain, too!

Photo: Disney
The quotability of this movie is also endless — “We’re dead! we’re dead! We survived, but we’re dead!” and “Honey, where is my SUPER SUIT?!” This movie is a master class of voice acting from some fantastic actors. I love it forever and ever.
Freaky Friday
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan should have gotten Oscar nominations for their performance in this movie. I said what I said.
They just play each other so perfectly! I feel like Jamie Lee gets more credit because her performance is more animated, but Lindsay Lohan’s subtle portrayal of a middle-aged mom is also amazing. And they BOTH learned to play the guitar for this movie!

Photo: Disney
My ONLY gripe with Freaky Friday is when rock ‘n’ roll-loving Anna apparently has no idea who Stevie Nicks is…c’mon, y’all! I know she’s a teenager but there’s no way a young woman that into rock music doesn’t know about the absolute icon Stevie Nicks, especially after demonstrating that she knows a lot about the Rolling Stones and other classic rock throughout the movie.
But, I will forgive them because it is a funny line.
Hocus Pocus
I don’t care if this is a Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus is one of my ultimate comfort movies and it is so wonderfully campy. There’s a reason it’s such a classic!

Photo: Disney
The setting alone is just so comforting with all its fall magic and the score goes along with it perfectly. Combine that with the hilariousness of the witches, some genuinely spooky moments, and a talking cat and this movie is everything I want it to be.
It also still holds up over 30 years later, and that’s hard to do! I don’t care if it’s October or June, this is a year-round watch for me.
Little Manhattan
If you haven’t seen this movie, stop what you’re doing RIGHT NOW and go watch it! Okay, that might be a little dramatic, but you should definitely add it to your watch list.

Photo: IMDb
This is an adorable little love story featuring a young Josh Hutcherson who gives such a great performance. It’s all set against the backdrop of, you guessed it, Manhattan in New York City and it has the best vibes, especially for springtime!
Cheaper by the Dozen
We’ve got another Steve Martin classic on this list! He is the ultimate dad and proves it in this movie of utter chaos.
There’s some serious star power in this movie — Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Hilary Duff, Tom Welling, Piper Perabo, and Ashton Kutcher, just to name a few. The soundtrack slaps, the kids are hilarious, and the comforting vibes are all there with an overall message of nothing mattering more than family.

I love how all of the kids have their own distinct personalities but also work together (at times) when it matters the most. And the bloopers are great if you want to give them a watch!
10 Things I Hate About You
A modern Shakespearean CLASSIC. If you don’t know, this movie is based off of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew and is full of late-90s nostalgia.
Julia Stiles is a feminist icon as Kat and Heath Ledger (R.I.P.) is just the absolute best. I could watch his singing scene on the bleachers 100 times and never get sick of it.

Photo: IMDb
I love that the nice guys win out in the end with both sisters and how can you not enjoy a fourth-wall breaking band performance on the roof of the school as the grand finale? It’s awesome.
The Parent Trap
Oh look — another Lindsay Lohan movie! She truly is the queen of remakes that are way better than the originals. This time we’ve got a double dose of Lindsay in her debut role as the Parker/James twins, and she crushes it.

Photo: Disney
The Parent Trap truly has everything — summer camp vibes, a London montage, a beautiful California vineyard, the evil almost step-mother, lovable secondary characters that are pivotal to the story, a cute dog, romance, family, nostalgia, practical jokes — I could go on!
It is actually insane that Nick and Liz thought they could just separate their twin daughters forever, but I do appreciate it as a plot device. And who would you want to live with if you could choose? Because they’re both really great options so I can’t decide!
High School Musical
I had to have a Disney Channel Original Movie on this list, and this is the gold standard. This movie is exactly what it’s advertised to be — a high school musical. And it’s perfect.

Photo: Disney
The musical numbers are truly a sight to behold thanks to the genius that is Kenny Ortega and the songs are now classics in my book. Everyone knows “Stick to the Status Quo” and “Breaking Free!”
I’m also obsessed with the drama of Troy being torn between two extracurricular activities as if he cannot do both. Respectfully, I knew people who played both sports and did theatre in high school, and I think the biggest issue would’ve been scheduling conflicts, not people judging them, but hey! Do it for the plot, right?
Sweet Home Alabama
There is no end to my love for this movie, which is complete with some southern comfort and a giant bloodhound. The soundtrack! The flashback with baby Dakota Fanning! The one-liners! The spunky southern passive aggressiveness!

Photo: Hulu
Does it skirt the line of some political incorrectness? Sure. Is is accurate for the time? Yep, I’d say so.
I never get tired of watching this movie and I just love the fish-out-of-water story that’s kind of turned on its head. It’s great to watch year round, but I really think it shines in the fall!
Monsters, Inc.
Okay, this Pixar movie DOES make me cry but I can deal with it because it’s amazing. I just love the monsters — they’re adorable!

Photo: Disney
Speaking of adorable, Boo is everything to me. She is such a cutie pie and it’s even more hilarious that these giant “scary” monsters are afraid of her.
The voice acting is immaculate, the premise is unique, and the ending, in true Disney form, is heartwarming.
The Princess Diaries
I saved the very best for last! The Princess Diaries is probably my number one comfort movie of all time — it’s a perfect film.
We get to watch absolute legends Julie Andrews AND Anne Hathaway, which would already be good enough, but they also have a secret royal family storyline? Yes, please!

Photo: Disney
One of my favorite things about this movie is that it focuses on Mia and her journey of whether she wants to be a princess or not. It’s not centered around a romantic storyline, that’s just a subplot and it’s subtly done in a very cute way.
Seeing Mia go from an unsure girl that wants to be invisible to a confident young woman who realizes she has the power to change the world is a beautiful journey. And, it’s all accompanied by an excellent soundtrack, gorgeous costumes, iconic one liners, and a very cute kitty cat.

Photo: Disney
Plus, Mia finally standing up to mean girl Mandy Moore is one of the best things to happen in a movie ever. The Princess Diaries is infinitely re-watchable and perfect whether you’re 13 or 89!
So, there you have it — I hope these movies bring you as much joy and comfort as they do for me. Stay tuned for more Disney news, info, and updates!
