‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’ Has a Shockingly Low Budget
Seven years after the release of The Rise of Skywalker, the next Star Wars film will finally arrive when The Mandalorian & Grogu hits theaters on May 26, 2026.
The upcoming Star Wars feature film, a spinoff of the wildly popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian, will mark Din Djarin and Grogu’s debut on the big screen. Joining the duo in their next adventure will be Sigourney Weaver and Jeremy Allen White, who will voice Rotta the Hutt.
While the plot of The Mandalorian & Grogu has been kept tightly under wraps, we know that the film will be set in the era of the New Republic and will follow the events of The Mandalorian Season 3.

Now, an interesting new piece of information has been released.
‘The Mandalorian & Grogu’s’ Budget Has Been Revealed
As part of their report on state tax credits, the California Film Commission has revealed that the budget for The Mandalorian & Grogu was just $160 million.

For comparison, The Rise of Skywalker had a $275 million budget. Its fellow sequel trilogy films had similarly high budgets. The Force Awakens cost $245 million, while Disney spent an astounding $317 million on The Last Jedi. Amazingly, The Mandalorian & Grogu has HALF the budget of The Last Jedi.
The Jon Favreu-directed Star Wars film even came in under Rogue One ($200 million) and Solo: A Star Wars Story ($275 million). Essentially, The Mandalorian & Grogu is the cheapest Star Wars film Disney has ever made.

In addition to its relatively low budget, The Mandalorian & Grogu received a $21.75 million tax credit from the state of California.
A New ‘Star Wars’ Strategy
Clearly, as Disney prepares to bring Star Wars back to theaters, they are taking a different approach this time around. With its reduced budget, The Mandalorian & Grogu should have a much wider path toward profitability. A new era of Star Wars may be upon us.
