John Leguizamo Says Disney Is Working on a Story For ‘Encanto 2’
Looking over the Disney animated canon, there may not be a film that had a more surprising rise to “classic” status than 2021’s Encanto.
As strange as it now sounds, when Encanto first hit theaters, it was greeted by a collective yawn. By the time the dust settled on the movie’s theatrical run, it had grossed just $256.5 million, which was not even good enough for the film to turn a profit.

Then, something amazing happened.
‘Encanto’s Unprecedented Success on Streaming
Beginning with the release of the film’s soundtrack in November 2021, Encanto began to explode in popularity. Propelled forward by the massive success of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” the film became something of a cultural phenomenon.

When Disney released Encanto to streaming on December 24, 2021, it quickly dominated the charts. According to Nielsen, it was the most-watched film of 2022, with 27.4 billion minutes viewed.
Since Encanto‘s Disney+ debut, the film has been regarded as a modern animated classic, and four years after its release, it continues to be as popular as ever. However, there has been little talk of a sequel.

That is, until now!
John Leguizamo Talks ‘Encanto 2’
In a recent interview with PEOPLE, John Leguizamo, who voices Bruno in Encanto, revealed that work may be underway on a sequel film.
“I’m also waiting for an ‘Encanto 2’ when all we do is talk about Bruno,” Leguizamo quipped.

“I’m calling them every day saying ‘When is No. 2 coming?’ They’re trying to come up with the storyline. They’re working on it.”
With Encanto‘s popularity as high as it has ever been and Disney continuing to incorporate the Madrigal family into the parks, it is hard to see a world where Encanto 2 doesn’t materialize.

While Disney has yet to officially announce the sequel film, it looks like we may be talking about Bruno again soon.
