Bob Iger Says Disney Offers “Tremendous” Value Compared to Other Entertainment Options

Disney CEO Bob Iger once again took center stage today as The Walt Disney Company held its annual meeting of shareholders.

In what was largely a muted affair, Iger showcased Disney’s upcoming slate of films, provided a glimpse into the company’s current plans for its theme parks, and finally took questions from investors.

During this section of the meeting, Iger was asked questions about the future of Disney Parks.

The Cost of Going to Disney Has Continued to Spark Conversation

One question asked by investors revolved around the increasing cost of visiting Disney’s theme parks. Earlier this year, the Wall Street Journal reported that Disney was concerned that it was beginning to price customers out.

In response to these criticisms, Disney issued a press release defending their pricing.

“We understand the financial pressures that families face across every part of their spending, including how they travel. We listen to our guests and use that feedback to introduce new offers and promotional deals, which provide significant savings,” they said.

Iger Defends Disney’s Value

At today’s annual meeting of shareholders, Iger noted that he constantly considers the affordability question. Reflecting on how Disney fits into the entertainment sphere, Iger noted that the value of going to Disney is “tremendous” compared to other offerings like sporting events or concerts.

His words echoed statements made by our very own Greg Antonelle earlier this year.

While the rising cost of a Disney vacation will continue to be a hot topic, by and large, Iger is correct. Disney guests are getting a great bang for their buck compared to the soaring costs of concerts and sporting events.

As we saw today, Iger is aware of the gap between perception and reality. The goal, then, is for Disney to get that message across to the public.
