Disney Taps ‘Percy Jackson’ Showrunners to Develop a New ‘Power Rangers’ Series For Disney+
After their success with Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Disney has tapped showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz to write, show run, and produce a live-action Power Rangers series for Disney+.
According to a report from The Wrap, Hasbro will produce the series, which will attempt to introduce the Power Rangers to a new generation of fans while also appealing to those who love the previous shows.

One of the most popular franchises of the 1990s, Power Rangers has struggled to find its footing in recent years, especially after a 2017 reboot film flopped.
Disney’s Long History With the ‘Power Rangers’
Believe it or not, Disney has a long history with the Power Rangers. In 2001, when it purchased Fox Family, the company acquired the rights to the characters and the rest of the Saban Entertainment library.
The marriage of Disney and the Power Rangers was not particularly successful, as Disney was reportedly embarrassed to broadcast the show. Despite their reservations, the Power Rangers remained popular in multiple regions, and the company continued to air the show.

In 2010, Disney sold the rights to the Power Rangers back to Saban. The studio attempted to reframe the franchise with the 2017 reboot, but the film grossed only $142 million on a budget of $100 million.
In 2018, Hasbro purchased the Power Rangers. Subsequently, on March 20, 2019, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie fell back into the Mouse House’s hands as part of their purchase of 20th Century Fox.
Recent Developments
The new Power Rangers show on Disney+ will mark a shift for Hasbro, which had previously partnered with Netflix.

With Fox and Disney back on board, the new Power Rangers show will feature contributions from the three major studios that have controlled the franchise over the years.
There is no word on when the new series will debut.
