Disney and Nvidia Are Teaming Up to Develop the Next Generation of Robotic Characters
Over the last couple of years, Disney has teased that we are at the dawn of a new age of robotic characters.
Just this month, Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro and Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman took the stage at SXSW and showcased the BDX droids that will soon roam Disney theme parks around the world.
In recent years, Disney also previewed a prototype Judy Hopps robot that could rollerblade, somersault, and climb out of a box.

Based on the glimpses we have gotten into Imagineering, robotics will play a large role in the future of Disney Parks.
Disney and Nvidia Are Teaming Up
During yesterday’s 2025 GTC developers conference, Nvidia announced that it was collaborating with Disney Research and Google’s DeepMind AI lab to develop Newton, an open-source physics engine that will let robots learn to handle complex tasks more precisely.

“The age of generalist robotics is here,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang declared.
The Next Generation of Entertainment Robots
By partnering with Nvidia, Disney hopes to use the new AI-based tech to create the next generation of entertainment robots. During Huang’s presentation, the BDX droids joined him on stage.
“The BDX droids are just the beginning. We’re committed to bringing more characters to life in ways the world hasn’t seen before, and this collaboration with Disney Research, Nvidia and Google DeepMind is a key part of that vision,” Kyle Laughlin, senior VP at Walt Disney Imagineering Research & Development, said in a statement.
