‘Snow White’ Is Trending Toward a $100 Million Debut — Is That Good Enough?
After years of making headlines for all the wrong reasons, Disney’s Snow White is finally set to hit theaters this weekend.
Starring Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, and Andrew Burnap, the film promises to be a modern retelling of Disney’s beloved animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
“In the heart of a dark forest, the lovely young princess Snow White seeks sanctuary in a quaint cottage belonging to seven dwarfs, escaping the wrath of her envious stepmother, the wicked Queen,” the film’s synopsis reads.

While both Disney’s decision to use CGI to bring the film’s dwarfs to life and multiple comments by Rachel Zegler have made Snow White a polarizing film, the early reviews from critics have been overwhelmingly positive.
The Latest Projections For ‘Snow White’
With spring break upon us and almost no competition in theaters, Snow White is tracking towards a $45-$50 million opening domestically and a $55 million debut abroad. That would give the film a $100 million opening weekend.
As far as Disney live-action remakes go, those numbers are not great.

For comparison, Disney’s The Little Mermaid opened to $95 million domestically and an underwhelming $68 million overseas. Even Disney’s disastrous Dumbo remake fared better than Snow White is tracking. The 2019 film made $45 million domestically and $71 million overseas.

With Snow White boasting a $200+ million budget, it is hard to imagine a world where the film is not a financial disappointment for Disney. However, there is a reason to hope.
Reasons For Hope
As previously noted, early reviews for Snow White have been glowing. It is possible, then, that the film will be propelled forward by strong word-of-mouth and have the kind of extended box office run that saw recent Disney releases such as Elemental and Mufasa: The Lion King reach profitability.

Snow White will hit theaters on March 21.
