The First Reviews For ‘Snow White’ Have Arrived — What’s the Verdict?
Objectively speaking, the release of Snow White has been nothing but a headache for Disney so far.
Almost since the live-action remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was announced, the film has found itself embroiled in controversy.
The trouble began when actor Peter Dinklage called Snow White a “backward” story due to its depiction of dwarfism.
In response to the actor’s concerns, Disney released a statement announcing that it would “reimagine the dwarfs to avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original film.”
The studio’s response drew backlash from fans of the animated film and numerous other actors with dwarfism, who felt that Dinklage’s comments did not represent the entire community’s perspective.
Rachel Zegler Causes a Stir
Then, of course, there is Rachel Zegler. Since Snow White was announced, there have been numerous instances in which the actress tasked with playing the titular heroine made comments that many felt were disparaging toward the original animated film.
Later, Zegler would find herself in hot water again for her comments in the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election.
To their credit, Disney has consistently tried to steer the conversation surrounding Snow White back to the film itself. Perhaps this is why the studio chose to host a muted Hollywood premiere.

However, a very basic question has been lost in the unending debate about Snow White and its stars — is the film any good?
The First Reviews For ‘Snow White’ Have Arrived
The first reviews for Snow White were released shortly after yesterday’s Hollywood premiere, and they are downright glowing.
Variety’s Katcy Stephan called the film a “visual feast with show-stopping new musical numbers and, of course, dozens of enchanting animated animals. The screenplay wisely gives its heroine newfound depth through her fervent desire to become the leader her father believed she could be, and a love story that’s sweet as apple pie.”

Ash Crossan of Screenrant was similarly effusive in her praise.
“Despite the bob being all over the place, #SnowWhite is quite charming! The message lands well, the critters are adorable, and Rachel Zegler and her enchanting voice are stunning. It almost got a full tear out of me, and I’ve never cried in my entire life.”
Hope For ‘Snow White’
The strong reviews coming out of Snow White‘s premiere are exactly what Disney needed. Perhaps now, the conversation will turn and we can all focus on the movie itself.

With a budget of $270 million, Snow White has a slim margin of error. For the first time in a long time, however, the film has hope.
It will be fascinating to watch as the film makes its theatrical debut on March 21.
