Disney Pin Trading began 25 years ago and has become such a huge part of the Disney Parks experience! If you’re an avid pin trader, then you probably already know everything there is to know about the activity. But, for those who aren’t familiar with the hobby–and are interested to know more–here’s the definitive guide to Disney Pin Trading!
Definitive Guide to Disney Pin Trading
Disney Parks Blog shared a definitive guide to Disney Pin Trading in celebration of the 25th anniversary! Here’s everything you need to know:
Disney Pins
Of course, we have to start with the pins themselves. If you’ve ever visited a Disney Park, you’re probably familiar with these collectible keepsakes that commemorate trips and/or show off your love for various Disney films, shows, characters, lands, attractions, resort hotels–virtually anything and everything!

While most pins are available throughout the parks’ shops–and on the Disney Store website–there are also collectible sets that can only be obtained by trading with Cast Members. These are called “Hidden Disney Sets.” You’ll know when you see a pin from a Hidden Disney Set because it will have a small Mickey head icon.

Pin Trading
Okay, now that we’ve covered pins, it’s time to move on to Disney Pin Trading! Pin trading encourages guests to swap official Disney pins with Cast Members. This activity started 25 years ago during the Millennium Celebration at EPCOT and has taken the parks by storm ever since. (Disney Pin Trading took an unfortunate break due to the pandemic that shall not be named, but we’ll ignore that.)

You can find participating Cast Members by looking for their lanyards and/or pin boards. Each board and lanyard has different pins (that are constantly changing due to the trading), so keep walking around to other Cast Members if you can’t find what you’re looking for!

How to Trade
Follow these steps to trade:
- Choose a pin from your collection to trade. This must be an official Disney pin from the resorts or the Disney Store website.
- Look for a participating Cast Member with a pin board or lanyard.
- Ask if you can see their collection.
- Find a pin you’d like to trade for, and make the trade with the Cast Member.

Trading with Cast Members
That’s all it takes to participate in Disney Pin Trading! If you’re not sure which pin to use for the trade, consider buying a starter set, which comes with a lanyard and a pack of pins.
Give the activity a try during your next visit to the parks. And we’ll keep updating you with the latest in all things Disney, so stay tuned to MickeyBlog.com.
