Disney World Lowers Annual Pass Down Payments & Increases Monthly Installments

Walt Disney World made an interesting change to its Annual Pass payment plan today, lowering the initial down payment for new purchases, while increasing the monthly installments.

For those who don’t know, Passholders have the option of financing their Walt Disney World Annual Pass. Instead of paying the full amount upfront, the cost of the past is divided into monthly payments.

Previously, Disney required a down payment of $205 upfront. The initial cost applied to all four Walt Disney World Annual Passes.

Today, however, the resort announced that it was lowering the down payment on Annual Passes to $99.

The Total Price of Disney World Annual Passes Has Not Changed

While Passholders will now save money upfront, the total price of Walt Disney World’s Annual Passes has not changed.

Accompanying the new lower down payment is an increase to the monthly installments. By the end of the year, you will still be paying the same price.

For example, if you purchased a Disney Incredi-Pass ($1549), you will now pay a $99 down payment instead of the $205 fee. Your monthly payments, however, will increase from $121 to $130 a month.

A Pixie Dust Passholder ($469) will see their monthly payments increase from $25 to $34, while a Pirate Passholder ($829) will now pay $66 per month, up from $57.

Finally, Passholders with a Sorcerer Pass ($1079) will see their monthly installments rise from $79 to $88.

Why Lower the Down Payments?

Disney clearly believes that more guests will be open to purchasing an Annual Pass if they do not have to pay as much upfront.

With Epic Universe set to open down the street this year, it looks like Disney wants to bring as many guests into the Annual Passholder fold as possible.

A change to the down payment was probably Disney’s best mechanism for increasing sales, save for lowering the price of the passes themselves.
