‘The Princess and the Frog’ Star Anika Noni Rose Shares Her Disappointment About the Cancellation of ‘Tiana’
Disney fans received disappointing news earlier this month when the studio announced that its long-gestating Tiana Disney+ series had been shelved.
Initially announced in 2020, Tiana was envisioned as a sequel to 2009’s The Princess and the Frog. Walt Disney Animation Studios was to produce the series, which would have seen Anika Noni Rose reprise her role as the titular princess.
While Tiana was initially expected to hit Disney+ in 2023, it never materialized. In fact, after the project was announced, updates on Tiana were few and far between.

It was unsurprising, then, when Disney pulled the plug.
Anika Noni Rose Responds
After news of Tiana’s cancellation broke, Anika Noni Rose took to social media to share her disappointment.
“I too am deeply disappointed that the continuation of Tiana’s journey in series form has been cut short,” Rose wrote on Instagram.

“The series was a long time coming, and a lot of beautiful work was put into it by all of the creatives involved, including but not limited to long time champion Jenn Lee, our wonderful writer/director Joyce Sherri, some fabulous animators and an amazing music team.”
A New ‘The Princess and the Frog’ Project Is on the Way
While it was disappointing to hear that Tiana will not see the light of day, Disney is reportedly now working on a short-form special inspired by The Princess and the Frog.
Joyce Sherri is the director and writer of the project, while Steve Anderson is also directing. In her post, Rose implored fans to support the new show.

“As hurtful as it is for anything you’ve put your heart and soul in to be prematurely ended, my hope is that when what is now to be a ‘Tiana Special Event’ airs, that all of you beautiful, loving, loyal fans who’ve been championing not just the series, but a ‘Princess and the Frog’ sequel, tune in,” she continued.
“Show your love and your desire in the numbers. Make that desire an undeniable and real thing. Until then, we will be continuing to work hard to bring you the most beautiful content we can.”
