‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ Sets Disney+ Streaming Release Date
At Tuesday’s Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden announced that Mufasa: The Lion King would be coming to Disney+ sometime in March.
As a quick recap, Mufasa is a prequel to Disney’s 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King. The film explores how the titular lion rose from obscurity to become the king of the Pride Lands.

“Mufasa, a cub lost and alone, meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of a group of misfits searching for their destiny,” the film’s synopsis explains.
‘Mufasa’s’ Box Office Comeback
Released to theaters on December 20, 2024, Mufasa: The Lion King initially got off to a slow start at the box office. After the holiday season, however, the film found its audience.

Over the next several weeks, Mufasa routinely topped the box office charts. Eventually, the film would gross $700 million. Now, it has its sights set on streaming.
When Will the Film Stream on Disney+?
In just a couple of weeks, fans will be able to relive Mufasa’s epic journey, or perhaps enjoy it for the first time.
According to a new report from PEOPLE, the film will be available to stream on Disney+ beginning Wednesday, March 26.
As we have seen with the streaming debuts of Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine, Disney’s biggest films tend to top the streaming charts. It will be interesting to see how Mufasa fares.
