WATCH: New Episode of ‘We Call It Imagineering’ Previews ‘Cars’ Attraction, Stark Flight Lab, and More
Earlier this morning, we brought you the exciting news that a new episode of We Call It Imagineering would debut on YouTube this afternoon.
The new installment in the fan-favorite series, entitled “Let’s Ride,” takes guests into Imagineering’s Ride Studio, the birthplace of some of Disney’s most iconic attraction vehicles.

Back to the Beginning
As with past installments in We Call It Imagineering, “Let’s Ride” begins its story with Walt Disney and the first generation of Imagineers.
After introducing audiences to the Ride Room, the episode shifts its focus to Disney Legend Bob Gurr, who designed some of Disneyland’s most iconic ride vehicles, including the Autopia cars.

“There were no smartphones. Nothing was digital. We had no calculators. Everything was done completely by hand,” Gurr recalled.
After providing insight into the creation of the Disneyland Monorail, the episode shifts its focus to the current attractions that Walt Disney Imagineering is developing.

As highlighted at last weekend’s SXSW, Imagineers are hard at work on the Monsters, Inc. coaster coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Cars attraction set to land at Magic Kingdom, and Stark Flight Lab, which will open at Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus.

The episode begins by showing the Star Flight Lab ride system in action.
A first for Walt Disney Imagineering, the attraction will transfer guests from a vehicle on a track to a robot arm, and then back again.

Magic Kingdom’s ‘Cars’ Attraction
Moving over to Magic Kingdom, We Call It Imagineering showcased the Cars-themed attraction that is coming to the park.

Imagineers rented ATVs and went off-roading to draw inspiration for the new attraction.

Racing through different terrains, the team knew the kind of experience that they wanted to evoke in the Cars attraction.
‘Monsters, Inc.’ Coaster
Finally, there is the Monsters, Inc. coaster.
Originally announced at last year’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the upcoming Monsters, Inc. land will transport guests to the streets of Monstropolis.
The crown jewel of the new land will be a thrilling roller coaster that takes guests through the Monsters, Inc. door vault.

As revealed at SXSW, the attraction will be the first-ever suspended coaster in a Disney Park and include the first-ever vertical lift!
Celebrating Disney’s Past
In addition to looking ahead, “Let’s Ride” does a great job of relaying Gurr’s insight into the creation of the Main Street Vehicles, the monorail, and the Haunted Mansion.

Hearing the legendary Imagineer discuss the attractions that he played such a large part in creating is a real treat.
