‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Delivers the Biggest Disney+ Debut of 2025

A new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) began last week, when Daredevil: Born Again premiered on Disney+.

Seven years after the original Daredevil ended on Netflix, Charlie Cox is back as The Man Without Fear. Perhaps more notably, returning Daredevil stars Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Jon Bernthal, and Elden Henson are joining him.

Production of Daredevil: Born Again was mired by setbacks, as Marvel decided that its original vision for the series was not working. With half of the show’s first season filmed, the studio made the call to overhaul the show and connect Born Again to the original Daredevil series.

So far, it appears that the decision is paying off.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Delivers a Strong Debut

As of this writing, Darevedvil: Born Again holds an 83% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Additionally, the series has amassed 7.5 million global viewers in its first five days of streaming. That number gives Daredevil: Born Again the best premiere on Disney+ in 2025, beating out Goosebumps: The Vanishing, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and Win or Lose.

However, it is challenging to put Daredevil: Born Again’s debut into a broader context due to the inconsistent nature of Disney’s streaming ratings reporting.

For example, the last MCU series to debut on Disney+, Agatha All Along, delivered 9.3 million views over its first week. Daredevil, then, is 1.8 million viewers behind Agatha, albeit with two fewer days of viewing figured in.

A New Era of  Marvel Television

The more interesting question for Marvel is what kind of ratings constitute a success. After the disappointing reception to Secret Invasion, Marvel announced that it was overhauling how it makes television.

Going forward, the studio wants to create serialized shows that fans can enjoy without necessarily being caught up in the broader MCU. Additionally, the goal is to develop shows cost-consciously. The days of spending movie-level budgets to create streaming spectacles are over.

The change in streaming philosophy should necessitate a recalibration of what constitutes a ratings hit on Disney+. Agatha, for example, managed to cultivate a dedicated fanbase while spending less than any previous MCU series.

With Daredevil’s focus on street-level stories, Marvel is likely using a similar blueprint.

So far, it appears that Daredevil: Born Again is connecting with its fairly substantial audience. As this new era of Marvel television unfolds, it will be interesting to follow the show’s progress.
