‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ Is Heading to Disney+ Later This Month
After a roaring comeback at the box office that saw the film overcome a poor debut, Mufasa: The Lion King is heading to Disney+.
At Tuesday’s Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference, Disney Entertainment co-chairman Dana Walden announced that the 2024 Disney blockbuster will be available to stream later this month.
Here is what you need to know.
Mufasa’s Comeback Story
Mufasa: The Lion King is a prequel to Disney’s 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King, explaining how the titular lion came to be king of the Pride Lands.
“Mufasa, a cub lost and alone, meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, the heir to a royal bloodline. The chance meeting sets in motion an expansive journey of a group of misfits searching for their destiny,” the film’s synopsis explains.

Mufasa: The Lion King initially hit theaters on December 20, 2024. Over its debut weekend, the film was lapped by Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and only managed a $35 million domestic debut.
After the slow start, many observers began to worry about the film’s box office prospects.
Fortunately, it was only a bump in the road. After Christmas, Mufasa made a roaring comeback, routinely topping the box office charts on its way to a $700 million gross.

Now, the film has set its sights on streaming.
When Exactly Will Mufasa Land on Disney+?
Fans who want to relive Mufasa or watch it for the first time will soon be able to. Disney is wasting no time in getting the film to streaming, and it will debut later this month.
Walden’s revelation that the film will hit Disney+ in March should have fans excited. Hopefully, we will get an exact release date soon.
