Disney Has Reportedly Scrapped Their Plans For a ‘Snow White’ U.K. Premiere
The next Disney blockbuster will hit theaters on March 21, when Snow White makes its long-delayed debut in theaters.
A modern retelling of the classic Disney animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Snow White will star Rachel Zegler, Gal Gadot, and Andrew Burnap.

“In the heart of a dark forest, the lovely young princess Snow White seeks sanctuary in a quaint cottage belonging to seven dwarfs, escaping the wrath of her envious stepmother, the wicked Queen,” the film’s synopsis reads.
Controversy Has Plagued ‘Snow White’
Originally set to hit theaters last year, Snow White has been steeped in controversy throughout its production. The troubles started when Peter Dinklage accused Snow White of being a “backward story” due to its depiction of dwarfism.
In response to these accusations, Disney released a statement announcing that it would be “reimagining the dwarfs to avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original film.”
The studio’s response drew backlash from fans of the animated film and numerous other actors with dwarfism, who felt that Dinklage’s comments did not represent the entire community’s perspective.
Rachel Zegler’s Controversial Comments
Additionally, Rachel Zegler has repeatedly found herself in hot water for her comments on the original animated Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
At the 2022 D23 Expo, Zegler noted that the original Snow White was “very evidently” a product of the 1930s.
“There’s a big focus on her love story with a guy who literally stalks her,” she said.
Calling the dynamic “weird,” Zegler explained that the new Snow White is “really not about the love story at all.” It was a wonderful change, according to the actress.

Later in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Zegler called the original Snow White film “extremely dated” in its “ideas of women being in roles of power and what a woman is fit for in the world.”
Disney Scaps Plans For a ‘Snow White’ UK Premiere?
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Disney decided not to hold a star-studded premiere for Snow White due to fears of backlash.
“Disney are already anticipating an anti-woke backlash against Snow White and have reduced the media schedule to just a handful of tightly controlled press events,” an insider told the Mail.

“That is why they have taken the highly unusual step not to host a London premiere for the film and are minimising the amount of press questions that Rachel Zegler gets.”
Whether or not the Daily Mail source correctly assesses why Disney is not holding a UK premiere for Snow White, the studio’s failure to do so would be an interesting decision.

It should also be noted that Disney plans to hold a United States premiere for the film, casting questions over the purpose of canceling the UK premiere.
A Tough Needle
No matter what Disney does in the lead-up to Snow White, its actions will be heavily criticized. That is the reality of the world we live in today and the position that the team behind the film has put themselves in.
Still, it will be interesting to see how Disney handles the situation. With a $200 million budget, Snow White is going to need audiences to turn out in droves.
