ESPN Announces the Final Episode of ‘Around the Horn’ Will Air on May 23
After 23 years, the final buzzer will sound on Around the Horn as the ESPN staple will air its final episode on Friday, May 23.
Since debuting on November 4, 2002, Around the Horn has been part of the backbone of ESPN’s afternoon programming block. Airing weekdays at 5:00 PM ET, the show brings together a panel of sportswriters and personalities to discuss the day’s topics.
When Around the Horn first premiered, it brought together well-known sportswriters from various regions across the United States for lively debates. Hosted by Max Kellerman, the show helped propel writers like T.J. Simers, Bill Plaschke, Woody Paige, Jay Mariotti, Tim Cowlishaw, J.A. Adande, and Jackie MacMullan into the spotlight.

Over time, the show’s format evolved, and its panel grew to include fresh voices. Regular contributors like Elle Duncan, Bill Barnwell, Frank Isola, Israel Gutierrez, Mina Kimes, Pablo S. Torre, and Bomani Jones joined the debate. In 2004, Tony Reali took over as host from Max Kellerman and has held the role for the past two decades.
Now, Around the Horn will be permanently muted.
What Will Fill the ‘Around the Horn’ Void?
ESPN’s plans for Around the Horn’s timeslot remain unclear. When the show goes off the air, a special 30-minute SportsCenter will fill its timeslot.

In the fall, a new studio show is expected to replace SportsCenter. The network says that more information will be forthcoming.
A Bittersweet Moment
While the final episode of Around the Horn will be bittersweet for fans, it should also give them the chance to celebrate the show’s historic run.

After all, not many shows make it 23 years.
“Around the Horn has had a remarkable run of more than two decades. That kind of longevity in media is incredibly rare, and we look forward to celebrating the show’s many accomplishments before the final sign-off in May,” said David Roberts, ESPN Executive Vice President, Executive Editor, Sports News and Entertainment.
“Beyond Tony and the ensemble of on-air contributors, we are particularly grateful to the production team led by Erik Rydholm and Aaron Solomon, who have been instrumental in ATH’s consistent success since the very beginning.”
