‘Moana 2’ Finally Gets a Disney+ Premiere Date!
After dominating the box office to the tune of over $1 billion, Moana 2 is finally getting ready to sail onto streaming.
Originally announced in February 2024 by Disney CEO Bob Iger, Moana 2 began development as a television series for Disney+. However, during production, Disney determined that the story was compelling enough to be adapted into a feature film.

That decision would eventually pay off in spades.
‘Moana 2’ Was a Box Office Success
Set three years after the first Moana film, the sequel finds the young Wayfinder reuniting with Maui and heading out to reconnect with the people of Oceania.
“Before Maui stole Te Fiti’s heart, our ancestors wanted to connect our island to all the people of the entire ocean. It’s my job as a Wayfinder to finish what they started,” she explains in the film.

After hitting theaters last Thanksgiving, Moana 2 proved to be a box office juggernaut. By the time the film ended its theatrical run, it had grossed over $1 billion and showcased the continuing viability of the Moana franchise.
Perhaps, most importantly, the film also gave Disney its first Thanksgiving hit in years.
When the Film Will Land on Disney+
Soon, fans will be able to relive Moana’s grand adventure from the comfort of their own home, as Moana 2 will finally be available to stream on Disney+ beginning March 12.

As Moana has consistently ranked as Disney’s most-watched streaming film, expectations for Moana 2 will be high.
I, for one, can’t wait to watch Moana set sail all over again.
