‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Has Grossed $284 Million After 10 Days in Theaters — Is That Good?
Despite middling reviews from fans and critics alike, Captain America: Brave New World soared in its first weekend in theaters, delivering a $100 million+ debut.
As the first installment in the Captain America franchise to star Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, all eyes were on Brave New World as it flew into its second weekend. After exceeding initial expectations, the film needed to avoid a second-weekend catastrophe to keep its box office prospects intact.

The fear was that poor word-of-mouth would lead to the kind of second-weekend dropoff that doomed Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and The Marvels.
‘Brave New World’s’ Second Weekend
Thankfully, Brave New World managed to hold up better than both of those films, delivering a $28.2 million second weekend. That number is down roughly 67% from its opening, which, if nothing else, is not disastrous.

By the time the dust settles, Brave New World will have grossed $141.2 million at the domestic box office, and $148.2 million overseas. That would give the film a global cume of $298.4 million over its first ten days.
What Is Success For ‘Captain America 4’?
The big question for Captain America: Brave New World, is what constitutes success? While Marvel surely would have loved the film to be a runaway hit like Deadpool & Wolverine, that was likely never in the cards.

In the lead-up to the film’s release, numerous reports came out that Brave New World had fared poorly in test streamings and subsequently underwent numerous reshoots.
Additionally, Brave New World was tasked with introducing a new version of Captain America to the MCU as the franchise moved away from the beloved Steve Rogers.
With those factors in mind, if Captain America: Brave New World could eke out a profit, it would have to be considered a success for Marvel. To accomplish that goal, the film will have to gross somewhere in the vicinity of $450 million.

After racking up $289.4 million in its first 10 days, Brave New World has a real opportunity to break even. Considering everything the film had to overcome, Marvel would likely be happy with that result.
