Daisy Ridley Isn’t Concerned About the Troubled Production of ‘New Jedi Order’
When Daisy Ridley took the stage at Star Wars Celebration 2023 to announce that she would be returning to the galaxy far, far away for Sharmeed Obaid-Chinoy’s New Jedi Order, it was a triumphant moment.
For a generation of fans, Rey Skywalker is the definitive Star Wars hero, and accordingly, Ridley was greeted by thunderous applause and screams from the fans in attendance. For a moment, at least, the actress was back atop the Star Wars universe.

Since the New Jedi Order was announced, however, production on the film has been troubled. Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were initially expected to write the film, but the screenwriters were eventually seemingly fired from the project.
More Turnover Followed
By the time New Jedi Order was announced, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight had taken over writing duties. Unfortunately, the onset of the 2023 WGA strike delayed his progress by five months. Last year, he exited the project to focus on a Peaky Blinders sequel film.

Finally, George Nolfi has been brought on board. Almost two years after the film was announced, New Jedi Order is no closer to hitting theaters. It now seems clear that not only will The Mandalorian & Grogu precede New Jedi Order on the release schedule, but James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi and Shawn Levy’s feature film will also be released first.

The Mandalorian & Grogu
Despite the numerous delays, Ridley remains committed to the Star Wars film and has remained optimistic.
Daisy Ridley Remains Optimistic
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley explained that New Jedi Order‘s long-gestating development is a sign that Lucasfilm wants to deliver a quality film, not rush out a product.

“People have talked about it a lot that the release date often affects films and how quickly things go into production. So the freedom to make sure that this script is the best way to tell this story is wonderful. And I don’t think any fans would want it to be rushed,” Ridley said.
“The wait will be worth it. I know what George [Nolfi] is working on, and he is a phenomenal writer. So I’m really looking forward to reading it, and yes, it’s all worthwhile.”
While New Jedi Order still has no release date, it sounds like everyone involved in the film is committed to getting it to theaters.

So, while Star Wars fans will have to wait longer than they expected to see Rey Skywalker again, they can take solace in the fact that another Jedi adventure is on the way.
