Pixar’s ‘Elio’ Has Been Delayed Again (But Fans Won’t Have to Wait Too Much Longer)
After their historic success with Inside Out 2 last year, Pixar is set to return to theaters later this June with Elio.
Initially set to hit theaters on March 1, 2024, the film tells the story of an eleven-year-old named Elio Solis who accidentally becomes the intergalactic Ambassador of planet Earth.
“For centuries, people have called out to the universe looking for answers—in Disney and Pixar’s all-new feature film ‘Elio,’ the universe calls back!” the film’s synopsis reads.

“The cosmic misadventure introduces Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination and a huge alien obsession. So, when he’s beamed up to the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide, Elio’s all in for the epic undertaking. Mistakenly identified as Earth’s ambassador to the rest of the universe, Elio must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions, and somehow discover who and where he is truly meant to be.”
‘Elio’ Has Gone Through Numerous Changes
When Elio was initially announced at the 2022 D23 Expo, the film was expected to be directed by Adrian Molina and star Yonas Kibreab and America Ferrera. Since then, however, Domee Shi and Madeline Sharafian have taken over directing duties and Ferrera dropped out.

She was later replaced by Zoe Saldana.
Another Delay
Just months before the film was finally expected to hit theaters, Disney has once again delayed the release of Elio. Thankfully, however, it is just a minor delay.
Instead of hitting theaters on July 13, as anticipated, Elio will now be released on June 20. The change means the latest Pixar film will not be released on the same day as Universal’s How to Train Your Dragon.

Instead of competing for the family audience with the live-action remake, Elio will now go head-to-head with the adult-oriented 28 Years Later. Theoretically, Elio should be able to score a bigger opening with its new release date.
Other Changes to Disney’s Release Schedule
In addition to changing Elio’s release date, Disney has made other changes to its calendar. For starters, the studio has also given 20th Century Studios’ Ella McCay a September 9, 2025 release date. Additionally, Sam Raimi’s horror movie Send Help will now hit theaters on January 20, 2026.

Walt Disney Company
Disney has also removed untitled projects on September 12, 2025, and January 16, 2026, from its schedule. Finally, the studio has added an untitled Disney film to October 24, 2025.
