‘Captain America: Brave New World’ Is Heading Towards a $190 Million Global Debut
The next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will unfold before our eyes this weekend when Captain America: Brave New World flies into theaters.
Initially set to hit theaters on May 3, 2024, Brave New World was delayed due to the 2023 Hollywood strikes. As the first Captain America film to star Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, all eyes will be on the film’s box office numbers.
The last time we checked in, Captain America: Brave New World was tracking towards a three-day opening of $86 to $95 million. Taking President’s Day into account, the film was heading towards a $100+ debut.

Just four days before Brave New World hits theaters, those projections have been slightly reduced.
The Latest Box Office Projections
According to a report from Deadline, Brave New World is now heading towards a $80 million 3-day debut and a $94 million 4-day.
In the lead-up to the film’s release, Anthony Mackie has explained that Brave New World will be a political thriller in the vein of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Suiting up alongside Mackie in the film will be a star-studded cast that includes returning Marvel stars Tim Blake Nelson (Samuel Sterns/Leader), Liv Tyler (Betty Ross), Carl Lumbly (Isaiah Bradley), and Danny Ramirez (Juaquin Torres/Falcon).

Joining the Marvel veterans will be Giancarlo Esposito (Sidewinder), Shira Haas (Ruth Bat-Seraph), and Harrison Ford, who is assuming the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt.
What Marvel Needs From ‘Brave New World’
After a year-long delay and numerous reshoots, Marvel would likely be happy with a $100 million opening weekend. The question for Brave New World will be whether or not the film can hold its audience.
The last Marvel release over President’s Day weekend was 2023’s Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quntumania. That film delivered a $120 million opening before falling off a cliff.

Brave New World will need to avoid that pitfall to deliver the kind of successful box office run that Marvel Studios has come to expect.
