Another Permit for New Tropical Americas Land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Has Been Approved
The South Florida Water Management District has approved a permit for Project Ro, the codename of the Tropical America expansion taking place at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The permit was originally filed last October and was a necessary step in large-scale construction underway at DinoLand U.S.A. As we previously reported, the permit was primarily related to infrastructure, including the drainage system, parking, and utilities.
It also covered the state’s environmental concerns about the large-scale construction project. The permit will expire on February 6, 2030.

The Project Ro permit was filed last October.
While these permits are usually a formality, that is not always the case. Recently, Disney had its permit with the SFWMD rejected for the planned demolition of the Rivers of America. Disney has since amended the permit and refiled it.
Construction on Tropical Americas Is Underway
With Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama now closed, construction on Tropical Americas has begun in earnest.

When completed, the new land will transport guests to Pueblo Esperanza, which will house an Indiana Jones dark ride, Walt Disney World’s first Encanto ride, and a new carousel.
However, to give guests a chance to say goodbye to DinoLand, and preserve some of the park’s capacity, Disney will be constructing Tropical America in phases. To that end, the rest of Dinoland, U.S.A. will not close until next year.
