Hulu Pulls the Plug on ‘How to Die Alone’ After Just One Season
After just one season, Natasha Rothwell’s How to Die Alone has been canceled by Hulu.
Premiering last September, the comedy told the story of Mel (Rothwell), an airport employee who decides to change her life after a near-death experience.

“‘How to Die Alone’ follows Mel (Rothwell), a broke, fat, Black JFK airport employee who’s never been in love and forgotten how to dream, until an accidental brush with death catapults her on a journey to finally take flight and start living by any means necessary,” the show’s synopsis reads.
The Series Was Critically Acclaimed
While perhaps not the ratings hit that Hulu had hoped for, How to Die Alone was lauded by critics and fans alike. Currently, the series has a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Nevertheless, after just eight episodes, Hulu has pulled the plug.
Rothwell Says She Will Shop the Series to Other Networks
In a statement to Variety, Rothwell said she was “shocked, heartbroken and frankly, baffled” by the decision to cancel How to Die Alone.
The actress now plans to shop the series to other networks.

“This show took me eight years to bring to life. And if there’s one thing I’ve learned in that time, it’s resilience. I’m not giving up. My team and I are committed to finding ‘How to Die Alone’ a new home. Stories like this matter,” Rothwell said.
“Now more than ever, television that amplifies previously unheard voices, and that prioritizes hiring and casting decisions that accurately reflect the diversity of the world, is essential.”
