ICYMI: Another Change Hits the Disability Access Service at Disney World and Disneyland
To make Disney Parks accessible to all, Disney created their Disability Access Service (DAS) to provide accommodations to guests who need them.

The system has faced scrutiny recently, due to implementing stricter rules that limit the guests who qualify for the service–with it now mostly being intended for guests with developmental disabilities. The system still seems to be a work in progress, with more changes being provided all the time–including this newest update.
DAS Pre-Arrival Window Update
As a brief refresher–DAS is a program intended to accommodate guests with developmental disabilities who cannot wait in conventional queues for extended periods. Instead, guests with access to DAS are given a return time, comparable to the time they’d reach the front of the conventional queue had they waited in the physical line.

To qualify for DAS, guests must register via live video chat on the Walt Disney World or Disneyland website. The registration process matches guests with a Cast Member who will determine what services may be the appropriate accommodation for each guest. Sometimes that’s the traditional DAS system we outlined above, but other times it’s another accommodation, like the ability to exit and re-enter the conventional queue.

Previously, guests could only have these conversations 30 days before their visit; however, this provided some difficulties as the wait to match with a Cast Member could take hours. Having only 30 days to find time to wait for the live video chat to begin and to have the conversation was nearly impossible for some guests. Fortunately, the newest update to the system has changed the pre-arrival conversation to being allowed 60 days before the trip.

Hopefully, this will make the system easier for guests to use! (As a reminder: there still is not an in-person option for DAS registration.)
