PHOTOS: The KiteTails Docks Have Been Removed From Disney’s Animal Kingdom
For a brief period in Disney’s Animal Kingdom history, Discovery River would come alive with color and characters throughout the day for Disney KiteTails.
Debuting on October 1, 2021, as part of the Walt Disney World 50th Anniversary celebration, Disney KiteTails used large kites, windcatchers, and puppets to tell a high-flying story featuring characters from The Lion King and The Jungle Book.
When the show worked, it was a great addition to Animal Kingdom’s entertainment roster. Unfortunately, the show was plagued with problems. The unpredictable nature of the kites often led to crash landings, and the reliance on wind caused many showings to be canceled.

By September 2022, Disney had discontinued the show.
The KiteTales Docks Have Been Removed
While KiteTails was short-lived, its legacy lived on in the small wooden docks that were built to launch the show’s kites. For years, the docks have remained visible on the banks of Discovery River. Until today.
When visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we noticed that the shores of the Discovery River looked barren.
That is because the KiteTales docks have finally been removed!
While the wooden structures are gone, the metal pilings are still in place.
With no new entertainment announced for Disney’s Animal Kingdom, it looks like the removal of the docks was simply general maintenance.
Thus ends a strange chapter in the history of Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
