Disney World Files New Permit For ‘The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure’ Construction
Although 2025 will primarily be a year of transition for Walt Disney World, with major construction projects set to start at Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, there are still numerous new attractions on the horizon for fans to look forward to.
At the top of the list would have to be The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.
The spiritual successor to Voyage of the Little Mermaid, the new Broadway-style show will use stunning set pieces, advanced puppetry, and cutting-edge special effects to bring Ariel’s story to life in a brand new way.
Work Continues on the New Hollywood Studios Stage Show
Initially announced in December 2023, The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure was expected to open in 2024. Last October, however, Disney announced that the atttraction would not be ready until Summer 2025.
“As we continue to look forward to ‘The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure’ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we are taking the next steps and filing permits for an all-new marquee,” Disney stated.

“Work on the exterior of the building will begin soon, in preparation for the premiere of this fully reimagined show in summer 2025. We look forward to sharing more details on this exciting new experience soon.”
Since Disney’s latest update, work has continued on the Animation Courtyard Theater that will house the new show.
Last week, the iconic Voyage of the Little Mermaid marquee was removed. Now, it looks like more work is on the horizon.
A New Permit Has Been Filed
This morning, Walt Disney World filed an amended Notice of Commencement permit for the Animation Courtyard Theater.
Unfortunately, the new document does not give us insight into the project and instead simply calls for “general construction.”
The work is being handled by MLC Theming Inc., a local construction company specializing in “scenic painting and aging of structures, fabricating facades, carving rock work, and more.”
Disney has previously employed MLC for numerous projects, including construction at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.

The permit expires on August 29, 2025.
When Will ‘The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure’ Open?
While Disney has not announced an official opening date for The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure, fans should not have to wait too long.
