Dreams Come True as Canadian Family Is Off to Walt Disney World
When Maysa Milligan was just a baby, she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disorder that causes thick mucus to build up in the body, leading to breathing and digestion problems.
With no known cure, the idea that Maysa would eventually be able to live a typical life seemed out of the question. Attending school, playing with friends, and enjoying the same freedom as her peers, were all impossible for Maysa, whose health would never allow such risks to be taken.

Then, last year, everything changed.
A Breakthrough in Cystic Fibrosis Treatment
Maysa was one of the first children in her age group to get access to a new form of Cystic Fibrosis treatment called Trikafta. A mixture of three different drugs, the new treatment has radically improved Maysa’s condition.
According to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI), “clinical trials of Trikafta show improved lung functioning, improved CF respiratory symptoms, increased weight, and fewer pulmonary exacerbations — in particular, exacerbations leading to hospitalizations and requiring IV antibiotics.”

For Maysa, Trikafta meant she could now experience a “normal” childhood.
“Through the years, Maysa has literally missed out on so much stuff with our family and now that she’s on Trikafta and is healthier and able to do this. Maysa’s missed out on a lot in her life, and this is a huge thing for our family,” her father, John, told the Sooke News Mirror.
Off to Disney World
Maysa, who is now enrolled in school for the first time, has also discovered a love for taking risks.
“We’ve had to be fairly conservative her whole life with that kind of stuff,” John said. “Last year we were in Vancouver and we went to Cultus Lake and all of a sudden Maysa wanted to be on the tallest, fastest and scariest ones. She’s making up for lost time in one go.”

Cinderella Castle
With Maysa feeling better, the Milligan family is heading to Walt Disney World for a much-deserved family vacation. The trip is being paid for by the Help Fill a Dream Foundation, which helps make dreams come true for Vancouver Island children who have gone through difficult experiences.

When asked what she was most looking forward to, Maysa had the perfect answer.
“I want to take the biggest roller coaster I can find,” she said, beaming.
