Daisy Ridley’s ‘New Jedi Order’ Film Finds a New Screenwriter
Amid speculation that the film had been quietly canceled, Daisy Ridley’s New Jedi Order film has found its new screenwriter.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, George Nolfi, best known for writing The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s 12, has signed on to write the Star Wars feature film.

The Film Was Announced in 2023
Originally announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023, New Jedi Order will be Daisy Ridley’s triumphant retur to a galaxy far, far away.

Set 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, the film will find an older and wiser Rey attempting to fulfill her promise to Luke and rebuild the Jedi Order.
When the film was initially announced, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy was set to direct, and Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were tapped to write the screenplay.

‘New Jedi Order’s’ Troubled Production
In March 2023, Lindelof and Britt-Gibson departed from the Star Wars project.
“The movie is still happening, but unfortunately, not with me,” Lindelof said at the time. “I wish them all the best of luck. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is an incredible director, and I can’t wait to see what she comes up with.”

Eventually, Lindelof revealed that he was “asked to leave” the film.
“I was in more than talks to join the Star Wars universe,” the screenwriter told Esquire. “I joined the Star Wars universe and was asked to leave.”
Steven Knight Departed Last October
Following Lindelof and Britt-Gibson’s departure, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight signed on to write the New Jedi Order script. Nine months later, Knight too departed.

Despite Ridley’s public proclamation that production on her Star Wars return was moving along, many began to worry about the film’s prospects of ever hitting theaters.
The Film Is Back on Track
With Nolfi on board, it now looks like production on New Jedi Order is back on track. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still set to direct the film.

While Lucasfilm has yet to announce a release date for New Jedi Order, it might be a while until the film hits theaters. So far, the only Star Wars feature with a scheduled release date is The Mandalorian & Grogu, which will premiere in theaters on May 22, 2026.
After that, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars film will likely follow. The movie is reportedly being fast-tracked after Ryan Gosling was brought on board to star.

Although they may have to wait, Star Wars fans can take solace that New Jedi Order is still in active production.
