The Prada Foundation’s New ‘A Kind of Language’ Exhibition Showcases Storyboards From Disney, Spielberg & More
Storyboards from some of Hollywood’s most iconic filmmakers will be displayed as part of a new exhibition organized by Italy’s Prada Foundation.
The new exhibit, titled A Kind of Language: Storyboards and Other Renderings for Cinema, will open on January 30 in Milan and run through September. In November, it will move to Prada’s Rong Zhai space in Shanghai.

Prada’s new exhibit includes over 800 storyboards, drawings, and sketches from the 1920s through 2024. The immersive show is designed to recreate the working environment of a storyboard artist.
Insight Into Hollywood’s
Curated by Melissa Harris, A Kind of Language: Storyboards and Other Renderings for Cinema will feature work by Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Wes Anderson, and Alfred Hitchcock, among others.

“For many, storyboarding is an integral part of the process: visually setting a scene and then plotting out its ebbs and flows may help the film team consider relationships between characters, figure out how to advance the narrative, or realize how to convey the essence of a particular segment,” Harris said in a statement.

“It may also help to troubleshoot, say when something does not seem quite convincing in a character or a physical interaction, or even provide visual references for the actors.”
Disney Storyboards Will be Highlighted
Disney’s use of storyboards will also be highlighted in the new exhibit.

“By the 1930s, animation studios like Disney began using storyboards as the standard to map out their stories. Over time storyboarding became a staple in movie making, helping filmmakers plan everything from character interactions and development to camera angles and special effects,” V Magazine explains.
